To provide better support and security, Outlook is the only fully CUIMC IT supported email program on computers and mobile devices (phones and tablets). Other programs are not as compatible with the Microsoft 365 email system used for CUIMC email accounts, while some features aren't available at all unless you are using Outlook. As of March 2022, any app used to for your CUIMC email must also support Modern Authentication or it will not be able to connect, see full details here.
While your CUIMC email account may connect when using unsupported email programs, some features may not be available or may not work properly.
iPhones and iPads are not able to use these features if they connect to their CUIMC email in the Mail app instead of the free Outlook app:
- Optimized indexed content searches on your mailbox - most people report a noticeable difference in how quickly results are returned in Outlook, as it can take advantage of the same "indexing" (organization and cataloging to improve searches) used on the Microsoft 365 mail system that CUIMC accounts are on.
- Shared Calendar access
- Teams meeting integration with Calendar invites
- Integrated Teams calls within the email app
- Additional user Organizational details such as Department and Title information are available when viewing a user “card”
- Native compatibility for Microsoft Office 365 file attachments from OneDrive and SharePoint
- Shared Mailboxes can be easily added directly to the Outlook app using your own sign in (provided you have delegate access), avoiding complex configurations required on the native iOS mail client
Apple's Mail and Calendar programs for Macintosh and Office 365 email accounts may have the following issues:
- Shared mailboxes or shared subfolders user mailboxes may not connect or work properly.
- Events created or updated in your Calendar/iCal may not synchronize properly.
- Shared calendars may not connect.
- Meetings in Exchange/Microsoft 365 may save to the wrong calendar on your Mac.
- Delegated permissions for a mailbox or calendar may not provide the intended level of access.
- Mac Calendar may take ownership of an Exchange/Microsoft 365 Meeting that you did not create.
