Why can't I automatically connect to Mercury?

Any computer or device must complete Mercury set up the first time it connects, and re-register annually.  See instructions for help with initial set up.

If your device was connecting but isn't doing it automatically, first make sure you are in a supported wireless location for Mercury.

If it doesn't connect in a supported area, try adjusting settings for mercury in your computer or device's wireless list:

Macintosh

Note that this may synchronize the preferred network list on any iPhone/iPad using the same iCloud account to sync with your Mac.
To move Mercury to the top of the list of Preferred Networks:

  1. Click the wireless icon in the upper right corner of your computer screen
  2. Select Open Network Preferences at the bottom of the drop down menu
  3. Make sure Wi-Fi is selected in the left of the Network window that appears, then click the Advanced button in the lower right.
  4. Make sure the Wi-Fi tab is selected near the top of the window, and find mercury in the list of Preferred Networks. You may need to use the scroll bar to the right of the list.
  5. Click and hold on mercury in the list and drag it to the top.
  6. Click the OK button in the lower right, then Apply in the Networks window, and close System Preferences.

iPhone and iPad

See Apple's How iOS decides which wireless network to auto-join. Settings cannot be adjusted on the device itself.

If you have an iPhone or iPad that uses the same iCloud account to sync with your Mac, it will adjust the preferred network list for the device as well.

It may also help to remove saved networks that you no longer use.

Windows 10 and 8.1

Setting a wireless network to connect automatically moves the network up in the priority list.

  1. Select the wireless icon in the lower right corner of the computer screen.
  2. Select mercury from the list, then make sure Connect automatically is checked.

Android

Settings vary or may not be available depending on the version and model of the device.  Please check the manufacturer's how to files or website, or try instructions to Remove a Wireless Network on Android.

If there are still issues you may also need to remove or "forget" other saved networks or profiles, select a link under Related Articles for instructions.
