UNI, MC, and CUIMC Email Accounts

Most at CUIMC have two main accounts: an MC domain account, which synchronizes passwords with your CUIMC email account, and a UNI account.

UNI (University Network ID)

MC account (CUIMC Email/MC Domain)

While both employ the same username - your UNI - the passwords do NOT synchronize automatically because they are separate accounts.
For convenience, your UNI account ID or "username" is also used as the first part of your CUIMC email account and for MC resources, so you do not have to keep track of different IDs. However, your UNI password and MC/CUIMC email password will not automatically synchronize when one is changed since they are separate systems. You can set both to have the same password if you prefer. Just remember that changing your UNI password does not automatically change your MC/CUIMC email password and vice versa.

Both require* that you change the password after a period of time.
You will receive an email notice that specifies either just your UNI account, or just your MC domain (computer login/Exchange email) account. Be familiar with the process for each to avoid confusion, account lockouts, and phishing attempts.
* UNI passwords are exempt from expiring if they use Columbia University's multi-factor authentication for all central web applications.

CUIMC also requires annual online HIPAA Privacy and Security Training. If you do not complete it by the deadline, your access to information systems, including email, may be revoked. Be sure you are not having login problems due to this; if so you must complete the training to regain access.
