Report Junk, Spam, Phishing, and Other Unwanted Messages

To allow you to report suspicious messages to Microsoft as well as manage how your Microsoft 365 email account treats these messages.

Reporting unwanted messages, especially phishing or other malicious emails, helps prevent further attacks and keep other CUIMC accounts secure.  To effectively report these please be sure to:

  1. Forward the message as an attachment or with full headers showing.  This retains important technical information needed to update security settings on the email system.
  2. If possible please verify whether the unwanted message was addressed to your @cumc.columbia.edu email address or your "virtual" @columbia.edu address.  These are separate mail systems that use different security filters.

If the message was sent to your @cumc.columbia.edu address, please report it to CUIMC IT by forwarding it as an attachment or with full headers showing to spam-abuse@cumc.columbia.edu.

If it was sent to your @columbia.edu address, please report it to CUIT by forwarding it as an attachment or with full headers showing to spam@columbia.edu.

Detailed instructions for forwarding as an attachment or with full headers showing, as well as steps to see if the message was addressed to your CUIMC or Columbia email address, are linked under Related Articles.
